Ingredients
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. white sugar
1 1/2 c. shortening (Aunt Maeve uses 3/4 c. Crisco, 1 1/2 sticks Oleo)
3 eggs slightly beaten
2 level tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
2 tsp vanilla
4 c. flour
Preparation
Cream brown sugar, white sugar, shortening and eggs together. In a separate bowl mix baking soda, salt and flour together. Add to the first bowl mixing well. Add vanilla and mix well. You could add 8 oz of semi sweet chips at this point if you are so inclined. Refrigerate overnight Preheat oven to 375. Drop by tblspoons on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 12 minutes or until brown. Because the dough is refrigerated you don’t need to bake all at once, but take care! the dough will slowly disappear from the fridge.
