Ingredients

1 quart buttermilk

5 eggs (separate and keep whites and yolks)

4 1/2 cups flour

1/2 cup sugar

1 1/4 cubes butter (melted)

3 teaspoons baking soda

Preparation

Mix together buttermilk and egg (yolks only) in a bowl.

Add flour, sugar and melted butter. Mix until combined.

In another bowl, beat egg whites until stiff.

Gently fold egg whites into batter. Do not over combine. Fold just until egg whites are just barely mixed into batter.
