Ingredients

1 cup sugar

1 Tbsp shortening

1 egg

1 cup scalded milk

pinch salt

1 Tbsp. yeast, proofed in water to make 1 cup.

4 cups flour

cinnamon

sugar

butter

Preparation

Cream sugar and shortening. Add egg-beat-add milk, water, yeast, salt, beat. Slowly beat flour in with mixer. Mix and knead til smooth in bowl. Should be a bit lighter and stickier than bread. Butter top, cover with cloth, let rise in warm place til doubled. Punch down Knead a little. With buttered fingers, form into flat round loaves and put in buttered pans. Let rise. Put on melted cooled butter mixed with cinnamon and sugar. Bake 15-20 minutes 325. Can make Apple Streudel. Roll out dough on pan. cover with apples, sour cream, and sugar.
