Ingredients

Salt rim:

1 part ginger powder,

2 parts Kosher salt.

Ginger-Lime syrup:

1 cup peeled and sliced ginger

1 cup fresh lime juice

1 cup sugar

Margarita:

Ice

3 tablespoons (1 1/2 oz.) añejo tequila

1 1/2 tablespoons (3/4 oz.) Ginger-Lime Syrup (see below)

1 tablespoon (1/2 oz.) Cointreau

1 teaspoon fresh lime juice

1 lime wedge, for garnish

Preparation

Salt rim: On a plate, mix the ground ginger and salt. Moisten the rim of a margarita glass with water and dip the rim in the ginger salt to coat.

Ginger-lime simple syrup: Combine 1 cup peeled and sliced ginger, 1 cup fresh lime juice and 1 cup sugar. Bring all ingredients to a boil, simmer 2 minutes, let cool, then puree in a blender. Strain, and reserve liquid.

Margarita: Fill shaker with ice, tequila, Cointreau, lime and ginger-lime base. Shake. Pour into a rocks glass. Garnish with lime wedge.
