Ingredients
2 1/4 C all-purpose flour
2 t ground ginger
1 t baking soda
3/4 t ground cinnamon
1/2 t ground cloves
1/4 t salt
3/4 c butter or margarine, softened
1 c sugar
1 egg
1/4 c molasses
2 T sugar (I use colored for the holidays)
Preparation
Combine flour, ginger, soda, cinnamon, cloves and salt. Set aside. In a separte, large bowl, beat margarine or butter and 1 cup sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg and molasses, beat well. Stir in dry ingredients. Shape into 1 1/2 inch balls, roll in the 2 T sugar and place on ungreased cookie sheets, about 2 1/2 inches apart. Bake in a 350 oven for about 10 minutes until light brown and still puffed.. Let stand for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool.
