Ingredients
.5 lb dried black mission figs
1 c water
2 TB light molasses
3/4 tsp whole grain mustard
3/4 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp grnd pepper
1/4 tsp kosher salt
apple butter to taste
Preparation
combine all ingredients except apple butter in heavy saucepan. bring to simmer over med heat. stir occasionally. reduce to heat to low. cook uncovered until figs are very soft and jam is thick, stirring and adding more water by the tablespoonful to keep jam form sticking, about 45 mins. remove from heat, mush figs with potato masher OR puree in food processor. add apple butter to taste.
